King of Spades
King of Spades
After hundreds of years
had been spent
England’s rose
Grew sweeter in scent
The laws of the spirit
they knew
Taught by a son
True men came to repent
The king of Spades
was a witness
Before England said
‘long live the king’
Though Christian men
they were wiser
His spear in son’s side
it did sting
Hiding a face ever weary
Speaking in secret tongues
of dissent
Spades cut a sharp
knife entry
To where the temple’s
fortifications prevent
The life of the strong man
‘twas clearly
Inside where only
doom went
He was not a father sincerely
With no spirit of love
in intent
His law of the letter
was really
Where the smell of blood
was po’tent
Like a prowling lion
holds dearly
To capture the meek
by their scent
This kingdom of tears
Recluse outlander doth live
No love of God ever near
Though unclean men
Christ forgives
One day seen walking through fear
Hobbling amongst the poor
as was with
A king promised
the fine coat
from his back
If a jar of his blood
one could give
This man wants to rid
What he won
in the folly of bet
With an ancient burden
he lives
Whence it came
he’ll never forget
God’s prince
did walk on for this
His cross on shoulders beset
